Precis. You don't buy a KLX230 if you want power. You have other reasons. It's as simple as that.
Usually there are more then one bike in the family. The KLX serve one purpose.
Its 233cc power plant is just "too small" for us power-hungry Americans. By my seat of the pants dynometer, the KLX makes just north of 20hp from its single overhead twin valve heart. Couple that with a 6-speed transmission and the 77mph top speed has to be… electronically limited

Well, yes. Besides that 'power' is relative, I am wondering the same thing as I think you're pointing at - that the KLX230 really is electronically limited. What I'd like to know in this case is wether the KLX230R, having the same engine (and gearbox?) as the KLX230, uses the same digital 'map' for its EFI.
In fact, I think it's limited to 68 mph because when I test my KLX230 on the highway I usually get up to about a 100 kmh very easy, then it struggles from the 100 to about 105 or 110 kmh. My reached top speed has been 122 kmh, that was on slight downhill, and with the wind in my back
*If* it is electronically limited I'd like to know if there's a black box to buy for it, as for my Royal Enfield where you can piggyback the FuelX Lite to sort of trick the controller and eliminate any factory limitations.
