After a season of dispute and disappointment, the WCM team will give the long awaited debut to their new four-stroke machines at Estoril on Sunday. The team's original four-stroke machines were ruled out by technical regulations, forcing the team to race 500cc two-stroke Yamaha machines. They've since been flat out building new four-stroke engines to comply with regulations and riders Chris Burns and David De Gea will finally give the new machines their racing debuts on Sunday.
Burns has fully recovered from the broken collarbone he sustained when he crashed in the Cinzano British Grand Prix and last week rode in the British Superbike Championship to test his fitness.
"At last I'm fit and I've got a four-stroke to ride. It's the most positive I've felt all season as we face those last six races, starting on Sunday. My collarbone is back to full strength and the team have told me they've found some extra horsepower from the new WCM four-stroke which makes its debut at Estoril.
“We tested the new bike at Brno and it went well for first time out, although it was down on horsepower.
Since then the team have found some extra power and I can't wait to get out there and race with some other people, rather than just with my team-mate David De Gea.”
