Doohan om Vermeulen och Stoner

Doohan intervjuas i den australiensiska upplagan av MCN:

Doohan tipped fellow Queenslander Chris Vermeulen, who last year – at 21 – became the youngest supersport world champion and this year was one of the top riders in the superbike world championship, to be the next Australian to ride in MotoGP, perhaps in 2006.

“I think Vermeulen has a great career ahead of him and I think there is some good things in store for him later in the year - and perhaps in a couple of years,” Doohan said.

“He has a level head on his shoulders.“

“There is every possibility that he might end up coming and visiting the team (Honda’s factory MotoGP squad) somewhere, and further down the track there is every possibility … he is a guy that Honda is looking at for the future.“

“I would like to see that, perhaps not next year but the following year, that there is a position available for him in the HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) MotoGP team.”

Doohan anticipated that Australian teenager Casey Stoner, a frontrunner in the 125cc class, would probably ride in the 250cc world championship next year and perhaps eventually graduate to MotoGP.

“Stoner will get better and better,” Doohan said.

Doohan har säkert stakat ut Vermeulens framtid och vill förstås gärna se en landsman i MotoGP. Han gör säkert sin premiär där senast 2006. Troligen testkörning på RC211V i vinter.
