Lucas Barros makes his debut on two wheels
Alex Barros was delighted to report the debut of his 8-year old son Lucas on two wheels. After riding with his father at Interlagos a few weeks ago, Lucas was scheduled to debut this weekend in the Metrakit 70cc World Championship race in Almeria, the South of Spain. .
"This year Lucas participated in the Paulista Kart Championship and was 5th in the Cadete class. I consider this an excellent result for his debut year and also because the competition level is very high. He also started practicing riding motorcycles three months ago and as a father I have to be cautious when I say that I think he has got it in him to be a good rider". Said the MotoGP veteran.
Barros and Barros joined the track together for the first time at Interlagos, Brazil, a few weeks ago. Their track outing was a rare display of father and son both in Repsol leathers and both in competitive state of mind!
"I would like to tell you that my heart almost jumped out of my mouth"!, said Alex. "I bought him a motorcycle called Metrakit 50cc and this was the first time that he rode it on a real racetrack. The other times he had ridden it in go-kart circuits, which is very different. Well, I guess I don’t have to say that it was very difficult not to be apprehensive.
Try to imagine the situation: I was riding my Honda CBR 1000 at 150 km/h on the main straight and Lucas was right behind me, his bike shook but there he was, having the time of his life. On the other hand I was so worried that he could fall and get hurt. Thank God his mother wasn’t there to see this".
"On Monday we will be back and hope to have good news specially because in a few days will be my son’s 9th birthday and it would be very nice for him to come home happy with his first international participation".
