It's been rumored for months that basketball legend Michael Jordan is mulling over starting or joining an existing roadrace team here in the US. Jordan's representatives have had talks with at least two manufacturers about possibly starting a team but where those talks will lead is unknown.
There isn't much evidence to support it, but two industry insiders who have ties to Jordan say he's a sport bike fan and a motorcycle racing enthusiast. And he's thinking about going racing.
Some might feel that Jordan having a relationship in the motorcycle industry comes from left field, but his camp isn't that distant. Jordan is managed by a division of Clear Channel Communications. Clear Channel runs the Supercross and the FUSA/CCS series.
Jordan retired from basketball as the most dominant player in the modern era, but I seem to recall he was playing again last season. While he played, he used Mike Hale's number: 23.
