No on-track action permitted until January 21st, 2009.

During this time riders are not permitted to ride their respective machines in preparation for the upcoming season.

During the seven-week break constructors will continue developmental work, whilst riders will use the free time for training, recuperation and any pending surgical procedures.

The first test for the premier class after the ban is lifted is set for February 5th-7th, at the MotoGP Official Test in Sepang.

1.15 Practice
1.15.1 Practice Restrictions
For the purpose of practice restrictions the year is divided into two
parts.
The “Season” is defined as the period starting 13 days before the first
race of the year and ending 4 days after the last race of the year, both
dates being inclusive. The Season does not include “Breaks”. A Break
is defined as two consecutive week-ends where events are not
scheduled. The period of the Break extends from 09h00 on the fourth
day after the Grand Prix until the following Grand Prix.
19
The “Winter” is defined as the rest of the year, i.e. starting 5 days after
the last race of the season and ending 14 days before the first race of
the subsequent season, both dates being inclusive. The Winter does
not include the “Pause”. The Pause is a period starting on the 1st
December of one year and finishing on the 20th January of the
following year, both dates being inclusive.

1.15.1.1 MotoGP Class
Practice with machines eligible for the MotoGP class is forbidden:
i) During the “Season” at any circuit included in the Grand Prix
calendar of the current year with the following exceptions:
a) Practice included in the schedule of the Events.
b) Practice during the three days immediately following an event at
the circuit at which the event has taken place.
c) Any activity authorised by the Race Direction.
d) Manufacturers and constructors who supply machines to the
MotoGP class may, before the 20th January of each year,
designate and inform the Race Direction of one Grand Prix
circuit as their testing circuit at which they may practice during
the Season and during the Breaks with their MotoGP class
machines during a maximum of 30 days or part thereof, but not
with their designated riders or with riders designated by other
teams and not as from 14 days before the race scheduled for
that circuit. The schedule of such tests and any subsequent
amendments must be notified to the Race Direction.
ii) During the “Winter” at any circuit with the following exceptions:
a) At a maximum of seven official tests organised by Dorna/IRTA at
Grand Prix circuits included in the calendars of the preceding or
following year, each test being of maximum three days duration.
b) At any circuit not included in the Grand Prix calendar of the
preceding or following year.
20
c) Manufacturers and constructors who supply machines to the
MotoGP class may, before the conclusion of the last event of
each year, designate and inform the Race Direction of one
Grand Prix circuit as their testing circuit at which they may
practice during the Winter with their MotoGP class machines at
any time, excluding during the Pause.
d) Furthermore, during the Winter, no single rider may participate in
more than eight tests, each of a maximum of three days, at any
circuits.

1.15.1.2 125cc and 250cc Classes
Contracted Teams who benefit from a Participation Agreement to take
part in the Championship in the 125cc and 250cc classes are
forbidden to practice with those machines:
i) At any circuit between the 1st December of one year and the
20th January of the following year, both dates being inclusive.
ii) At any circuit outside the Continental Zone where the team is
based, (Europe, Asia/Oceania, Africa, the Americas), between
the end of one season and the start of the next season.
iii) At any circuit included in the Grand Prix calendar of the current
year after the date that is 14 days prior to the first race of the
season.
iv) At any circuit included in the Grand Prix calendar of the current
year during “breaks”, as defined in 1.15.1 above.
The following exceptions will apply:
a) Free practice or qualifying practice at the event.
b) Practice at any circuit after the event at that circuit except during
a break as defined above.
c) Official practice sessions organised by IRTA.
d) Practice by contracted Teams and their designated riders in
those classes, at the two testing circuits designated by each
team (see 1.11.1) which may take place up to 14 days before the
race scheduled for the circuit, but not during a break as defined
above.
e) Any activity allowed by the Race Direction.
f) Designated riders who are in their first season of contracted
participation in the World Championship may compete in other
events held at Grand Prix circuits in Europe during that season.
21
v) Practice restrictions do not apply to wild card riders except that
they may not practice or race at any Grand Prix circuit starting 14
days before the race.

The testing ban may provide some rest and relief for the MotoGP riders, but the period traditionally starts with a general crowding of operating theaters around the globe. This year was no different, and it was the turn of Toni Elias, Sete Gibernau and John Hopkins to put themselves under the knife once testing finished.

Elias was up first, and had a screw removed from his leg, which was put in to help heal the painful spiral fracture he suffered after a vicious crash at Assen's Ramshoek corner in 2007. Surgeons in Barcelona encountered no problems taking the screw out, and Elias is already working on his physical rehabilitation program.

Sete Gibernau was up next, at the same Dexeus medical center in Barcelona, this time to have a plate removed from his collar bone. The plate was put in during Gibernau's 2006 season, replacing an earlier plate which had been bent during the horrific first-corner crash at Barcelona that year. At first, it seemed that that crash had ended Gibernau's career, but a divorce during 2007 breathed new life in to the Spaniard's will to race. According to Gibernau's doctors, the collarbone is now strong enough to manage without the plate.

The final patient was Kawasaki's John Hopkins, who had all of the metalwork removed from his left ankle, which had been put in place after a crash at Assen, in the same corner that had broken Elias' leg a year earlier. Hopkins was particularly pleased to have the plates removed, as the plates had been rubbing on his tendons when he changed gear, causing his ankle and leg to swell up, as well as causing a great deal of pain. While they were there, the surgeons at Dr Ting's clinic in California also cleaned up Hopkins' knee, injured in the same crash.

All three men should be fit and ready to return to testing at the end of January in Phillip Island in Hopkins' case, and at Sepang in early February in the case of Toni Elias and Sete Gibernau :tummenupp

During MotoGP winter break, the first 2009 winter test will take place next February 5th in Sepang, MotoGP riders try to use in the best way their free time. Niccolò Canepa, Pramac Racing rider and student at University of Genova as Mechanic Engineer, went to Sestriere from December 5th to December 8th on the well-known ski resorts Vialattea. The structure that hosted the 2006 Olympics Games has, in fact, hosted the Italian rider during the biggest winter Italian university event, the Snowbreak, where in the Olympic village and the hotels in the piedmont’s city have arrived almost two thousands students from all over Italy. Niccolò has participated to various events, some motorsport as well, like snow scooters and pitbikes.

Niccolò Canepa – Pramac Racing Team rider

“This has been for me a special occasion to feel like a normal student. To stay with people of my age that are as well enrolled in university made me feel really good. It’s the first time I participate to the Snowbreak but it will not be the last. Cento&venti management, the agency that has organized this incredible event, has done a phenomenal work. I was impressed of the amount of students that were here and notwithstanding this everybody was always busy with various events, competitions and parties that were in program. Of course this hasn’t been for me just a vacation, next year an important season is waiting for me and also here I trained every morning in the gym and I followed a specific diet. Yesterday I was also able to ski for a while. I have to thanks Vialattea, the city of Sestriere and Cento&venti management for the marvelous hospitality they have given me.”

Randy de Puniet took part in an Xtreme Supermoto race at the Bologna motorshow over the weekend, thoroughly enjoying the experience onboard a Honda 450CRF despite some bad weather at the event and coming home in eighth position.

The 27-year-old also met fans and signed autographs at the show before commenting, `I enjoyed myself very much during these two days. The bad weather conditions slowed down our pace but it was good training for me. The guys here are very fast because they have competed in the Supermoto championship for a long time and I never expected to end in the top ten.´

`We suffered some light slides during the races but luckily everybody escaped unhurt from the incidents. I think it was a very exciting show for the spectators and I hope to be here again next year. I was able to test the condition of my wrist during the races and I can finally say that it is fixed. Our next winter test session will be held in Sepang in the first week of February so I will keep on training until that date, even on supermoto bikes.´

Jul o nyårshälsning från Nicky Hayden som otåligt väntar på att få gränsla fabriks Ducatin igen!

Well that's the a wrap on another season and wow, we've had a lot of ups and downs. Just like most season's go and life in general.

I would have to say the low point was getting hurt after my genius idea of racing X games backed-fired. The high point had to come in my next race at my home GP in Indy to lead across the bricks, in front of a pretty full US crowd and many friends and family practically in the middle of a hurricane. Do you think if it was a baseball game they would have ever even come out of the dug out? The win would have been sweeter, but I was happy in the end.
The next day, things did manage to get better when my new deal with Ducati became official.
So next year we have a big change, and to be honest, I cant wait. That said, before I go, I must wish you, all my fans, a merry Christmas and happy New Year. A special thank you for all the support this year through the thick and thin. Yall never gave up on me and I can say I did the same with a straight face. A
Also to all my team, and all of my sponsors, I swear I'm the luckiest guy in the world to get to do what I do!
So I hope Santa comes through and hooks yall up with everything you want. I will be sure to leave a few cookies for the big guy even though I already got the toy I really wanted for next year - a factory Ducati to play with!!!!
Check out a few pics thought yall might like of my recent family vacation to the Bahamas. We had the whole team in there - Mom, Dad, 2 bro's, 2 sisters, Tommy's wife and their little one!!!

God bless to you all and wishing you all a Happy Christmas and a great 2009.
Peace,

Nicky
