OK det var mer än jag visste. Men hur fan kan han vara konkurrenskraftig på den HD:n? I just don´t get it :va

:hihi

Honda's Jake Zemke won the 2006 Daytona 200 by 1.561 seconds over Erion Honda's Josh Hayes, taking victory over the race favorites, his teammate and five-time Daytona 200 winner Miguel Duhamel and the factory Yamahas.

DuHamel led the race by 12 seconds when the final pit stops were nearing, but Miguel crashed in the infield, leaving Zemke to motor off into the sunset while Miguel picked up the pieces.

But the pace car slowed the action, setting up a late race battle between Zemke and Hayes. Hayes closed -- but could not catch -- Zemke. Jason DiSalvo finished third for Yamaha..

None of the controversial Buells finished the race, much less proved to be a contender for the win.

Det behövde inte ens gå bra för Buellen.

Kevin Erion: I'm Protesting The Buell
"It's really just right versus wrong."

by dean adams

Erion Racing's Kevin Erion said earlier today that he intends to protest the Buell XBRR after today's Daytona 200.

"Well, from what I've heard from other people - people that have been given pretty good information - and from the Buell's own press release of the fact that the motorcycle is intended to be a race bike and never to be sold as a street bike," Erion said.

"It started out as a purpose-built race bike. Based on that, number one, I would be inclined to believe that the rules state clearly two times in the rulebook that it has to be a street-legal motorcycle. So based on that, I'd say it's probably not legal. The other concern I have, and I have not confirmed this, of course, because you really can't do too much until after the race, but I've been told by some very reliable sources that the engine cases are completely different, and that they wouldn't even bolt back into the stock frame, if they had a stock frame, which of course they don't, because that bike was never built as a street bike.

"Some claim they just simply melted down the original cases and re-cast the original raw materials back into something else, and of course, because the rule says you can modify the engine, and it has unlimited modifications, but I don't believe the word "modify," and I don't believe the intent of what the AMA wanted, was completely different.

"So those two items, to me, are the items that make the bike illegal, and we can't do anything about it beforehand, because the process is that you protest a motorcycle after an event and not before. I think the bike needs to be protested, and I think it needs to be tested that the bike's legal. If the bike is legal, the bike is legal. But it has to go through the process to make sure. We believe the bike's illegal. Our job is to go there and have them show us why it's legal."

While there has been no statement by the AMA, insiders say that the AMA--which has a near 75 year old history of percieved collusion with Milwaukee--gave Buell permission to build the XBRR via e-mail correspondence.

"The rulebook determines legality," Erion said. "The AMA printed the rulebook. So they may have their interpretation that they never shared with anybody before this, but I'm pretty sure that we're going to find out what the intent of the word "modify" means."

Erion said that he has no animosity towards the Buell, but simply wants the AMA to act in a way that is fair to all competitors. "It's not personal, in my opinion, for me. Personally speaking, it's not at all personal. I don't - I have no personal feeling one way or the other about it. I have a rulebook. And I have a race team. And my race team is built around the rulebook. And my job as a race team owner is to preserve the sanctity of the rulebook and to make sure I'm doing my job as a team owner to conform to that book, and I believe everybody else that wants to race should do the same thing. It's not the first time that people interpret a rule one direction or another, and interpretation is part of what that rulebook is. So it's simply a matter of testing what the interpretation of what the AMA meant, and also allowing - if it gets to an appeals situation - allowing three people that have no vested interest - supposedly, although the people are picked by the AMA - let them decide what the word "modify" meant, and what the intent that the AMA had when they put the word "unlimited modification." Personal feelings really, as far as I'm concerned, I don't have an attachment or a detachment. I don't have a love/hate relationship with any of it, all the way up and down the paddock. It's really just right versus wrong."

Suzuki's Mat Mladin won the Daytona Superbike race on Saturday, just as it seemed his goose was cooked. Mladin had teammate and rival Ben Spies on his tail as he left the chicane the final time. Spies was in prime position to draft past, and take the win but Mladin slowed dramatically and let Spies take the lead. Mladin blew past to take the checkered flag by 0.032.

Honda's Miguel DuHamel was third, ahead of Ducati's Neil Hodgson. These two riders ran away from a group consisting of both Hondas, both Kawasakis and Hodgson in the middle portions of the race.

Tommy Hayden was fifth for Kawasaki, ahead of Aaron Yates (Suzuki) and Ben Bostrom (Ducati).

Roger Hayden crashed with three laps to go. Jake Zemke (8th place) was forced wide by the falling Kentuckian and lost position.

The Jordan Suzukis of Jason Pridmore and Jake Holden rounded out the top ten.

Är detta sant så har man tagit ordet "modified" till en helt ny dimension. Smälta om metallen...
