"We know it’s a 997cc, 90-degree V4, with the same 81mm bore and 48.4mm stroke that’s used by the outgoing generation of litre MotoGP bikes as well as rival superbikes such as Ducati’s Panigale V4 R.
Also confirmed is a Ducati-style contra-rotating crankshaft to counteract gyroscopic forces and help the bike turn quickly. CFMoto have claimed performance figures of at least 207bhp, a 14,500rpm redline and 84.1lb.ft of torque, all in an engine that weighs a suggested 61.5kg.
A batch of 11 new patent applications filed in China has now given a much better look inside the new V4 engine, and while the documents themselves are largely related to minor details, they confirm several key engineering decisions in the new design.
A look at the exploded diagrams reveals that the CFMoto engine, like Ducati’s V4, features a variable-length intake system that wasn’t shown on the original EICMA prototype version."

"One of the standouts of the new batch of patents is that some make specific reference to a turbocharged version of the company’s new V4 engine.
Referring to the exhaust ports on the cylinder head, one of the documents reads: “When the engine is turbocharged, the exhaust end communicates with a turbine mounted on the cylinder head. When the engine is naturally aspirated, the exhaust manifold is connected to discharge exhaust gas from engine through an exhaust manifold.”
