Lite kuriosa saxat hej vilt från transworld motocross 2001-02-01:
Before I go any further, I must make it perfectly clear that the Cannondale MX400 runs much, much better than either I, or any of the TransWorld Motocross test riders expected. When DIRT RIDER Magazine declared the prototype C-Dale "Bike of the Year" back in 1999, I, along with the rest of the motorcycle industry shared a collective chuckle at the editor's expense. Unproven and still unproduced, the radical Cannondale at that time was still a mere pipe dream. To declare the mythical machine the Bike of the Year seemed preposterous!
Many things on the Cannondale MX400 have never or rarely been seen before on a motocross bike. Need examples? How about a cassette-style transmission, a reversed cylinder head with a super short header pipe, a programmable electronic fuel injection system, electric starting, dual air filters, an aluminum chassis that also serves as an oil tank and an airbox, and a linkage-less shock!
Cannondale's biggest obstacle is not performance. Even though the bike is not a threat to dethrone the YZ426F or KTM 520SX, the bike is competitive right out of the gate and greater performance will surely come in time. Instead, durability and dependability is what the Cannondale lacks most. During my six-week love/hate affair with the Cannondale MX400, I broke two front wheel hubs, killed the battery, fried the clutch, shredded a rear fender, nearly lost the exhaust pipe to vibration-loosened nuts and cracked an engine sidecase. Even so, I'd ride the Cannondale any day. There's something to be said about riding a bike that looks good, rides good and is unlike anything your buddies are on.
